Co-owner, Maria, has been in the food industry since 1963. |

Maria and her brother, Tino, always dreamt of owning their
own business. |

They never actually thought that one day their business
would be one of the |

most successful restaurants in Richards Bay. |

In September 1997 Maria came to Richards Bay, from
Vereeniging, to assist |

Tino, who lived in Richards Bay, with a catering function.
Tino took Maria for |

a boat cruise around the small craft harbour and pointed
out a premises for |
|
|
| . |
|
rent close to the Water Wing (Harbour Police Authority).
Within days, Maria |
|
|
| . |
|
and Tino submitted a business proposal to the landlord.
The proposal was |
|
|

|
immediately accepted. |
|
|
| . |
|
|
|
|
|
|
| . |

|
Maria returned to Vereeniging, sold her house and started
out on her new |
|
 |
|
| . |
|
adventure. The doors to MariTino's (Maria / Tino)
Restaurant, a mere 48 |
|
|
| . |
|
seater, opened on the 27th February 1998, with the
official opening being |
|
|
| . |
|
held a few days later on the 1st March. |
|
|

|
|
|
|
| . |
|
Marcelo, Maria's son, joined the restaurant in 1999. |

A few days after opening, Priscilla and John were hired as
cleaning staff. |

Today, they are both assistant Chefs. |

Betty , Florence and Jacinta all joined in 2000. |

Maria says the most important thing she demands of her
staff is the ability to |

communicate well. She then trains them in the MariTino's
way. |
